Located in the north-west part of New Delhi, Rohini is the second largest sub city in Asia.  An upmarket residential locality,  it is divided into five phases, and sub-divided into several sectors, including premium sectors such as sectors 7, 8 and 9.

One of the most popular localities in New Delhi, Rohini primarily consists of DDA flats for Lower Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG). The sub city of Rohini is a much sought after locality in Delhi for its planned layouts and sectors, sprawling parks, and good connectivity options.

 

Rohini, which is essentially a residential area, also has several commercial establishments. Sector 10 in Rohini is a major commercial area which has malls like City Center and D-Mall, while Sector 3 has the Mangalam Place, which is a huge shopping arcade. Mangolpuri Market is another important business centre which has companies that deal in granite and marble. The Avantika market located in Sector 1 is the biggest market in Rohini for shoppers. Each of the sectors in the locality has a market.

 

The locality also has several prominent schools and colleges such as Jagan Institute of Management Studies, DPS Rohini, Kendriya Vidyalaya, DAV Public School, and Delhi Institute of Advanced Studies. Rohini also boasts of excellent medical facilities and has many reputed hospitals such as  Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital & Heart Institute, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, and ESI Hospital.

 

Connectivity and Transit Points

Connectivity plays a key part in the popularity of this locality. Nearly all residential colonies have one bus stand. The Delhi Transport Corporation run buses that ply from Rohini to several areas across Delhi including Old Delhi Railway Station, New Ashok Nagar, Shivaji Stadium, and Safdarjung Terminal. The DTC also offers special services from the Indira Gandhi International Airport to Rohini.

Rohini is also well connected to other parts of the city by Metro Rail on line 1 of the Delhi Metro. Rohini East, Rohini West and Rithala are the three stations which connects the locality with Kashmere Gate, Dilshad Garden, and several other localities in New Delhi. Autorickshaws and taxi cabs are two other important modes of transportation, while cycle-rickshaws are a cheap mode of transportation for short distances. Rohini Sector 16 bus stand, Saraswati Chowk Bus Stop, and Begumpur Bus Stand are few of the bus stands in this locality.

 

Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 25 km from Rohini, while New Delhi Railway Station is about 18 km from the locality. The nearest Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is around 15 km from the area.

Although Rohini is a residential township, there has been a lot of activity in the commercial front as well. The locality has seen a rise in the number of shopping malls, and even a few hotels have come up in the locality. A few of the sectors have been dedicated especially for commercial centres.

Lack of parking space on the roads, traffic chaos in certain sectors, and security of the residents are some of the issues that Rohini faces.A few of the markets in the locality operates even after the permissible time, which disturbs the residents of the locality.

Residents have also complained about the garbage that is strewn on the roads that has been a major cause of the diseases such as  malaria.

 

Factors for Growth in the Future

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA)has proposed to make the locality into an integrated township that will increase the commercial activity in the locality, which has been lacking a little . The proposed planned township will include malls, multiplexes, and office spaces.
