There has been a proposal for a Regional Rapid Transit System between Meerut and Delhi along with the Ghaziabad Shahdara segment. Handled by the Delhi Integrated Multimodal Transit System, this project is expected to reach completion by 2017. Further, a proposal of an expressway from Meerut to Delhi via Ghaziabad is also underway, which will reduce the Delhi-Meerut drive to only 45 minutes. The NH 58 will also be made into a six lane one. In 2014, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet had approved the proposed Metro Rail projects in Meerut. Ever since the declaration of Meerut as a metropolitan city in 2007, many new transport infrastructure projects and construction of new flyovers have come up.
Real Estate
Smooth connectivity via well-structured roads is one of the prime factors that have boosted the real estate market of this city. City-based realtors are of the opinion that smart-city status for Meerut will escalate the real estate scenario. With improved connectivity and massive commercial and retail developments, homebuyers will be keen to invest in property in Meerut. Wider roads, better facilities, and sprawling office spaces make Meerut a dream destination of sorts. It offers a high standard of living and is the best option in the NCR due to its close proximity to New Delhi. Delhi Meerut Highway, Pavli Khas, Ganga Nagar and Malyana are some of the top locations for property solutions in the city. Low prices of property and affordable land rates have given rise to mid-segment and low-cost housing in Meerut. However, with the city rapidly gaining vibrancy through higher rates of urbanization than most other budding cities, the residential property prices are believed to shoot up in the near future.
