City infrastructure
The city is well connected to several other major Indian cities by rail. A suburban station called Bhagat ki Kothi, under development at present, is set to alleviate the pressure on the main Jodhpur station. A number of important trains originate from Jodhpur, such as Rathambhore Express, Mandore Express, Howrah Superfast, Suryanagri Express, etc. Jodhpur is also one of the destinations of the luxury trains Palace On Wheels and Royal Rajasthan on Wheels.
The airport in Jodhpur, a prominent one for Rajasthan, is soon going to be transformed into an international airport. The city also enjoys excellent road connectivity to all key cities in Rajasthan, besides those like Delhi, Agra, Ahmedabad, Surat, etc. A number of national and state highways pass through Jodhpur. With the recent launch of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), the city is further benefitting from low-floor and semi-low-floor buses that ply on important routes. Rajasthan Roadways also operates Mercedes Benz and Volvo bus services to a number of locations, besides deluxe and express bus services.
Real estate
The top locations in the city to have a property in are Kabir Nagar, Pal Gaon, Sardarpura, Ashok Nagar, and Ratanada. The price of land here has increased many times over in the past few years, owing mainly to the fast-paced development the city is witnessing.
With several premier educational institutions setting up their campuses in the citys periphery, the prices are skyrocketing. A decade ago, flats in Jodhpur hardly found takers, but in the recent past, there has been a real estate boom, with Nagaur Road, Pal Road, Benar Road, or Barmer Road seeing an exponential price hike with the announcement of massive projects in the district. Properties located along the highway or business districts of the city are quoting high prices. The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, one of Indias most ambitious industrial development projects, is believed to impact the real estate market of Jodhpur in a big way.
Lifestyle
The prime attractions in Jodhpur include Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jaswant Thada, Ghanta Ghar, and Machiya Safari Park. It also hosts two outdoor stadia and one indoor stadium complex (the Barkatullah Khan Stadium).
With ample scope for higher education and research in various disciplines, Jodhpur is fast emerging as a major educational hub. The leading institutions in the city are IIT Jodhpur, AIIMS Jodhpur, National Law University Jodhpur, NIFT Jodhpur, MBM Engineering College, Jai Narain Vyas University, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University, etc. There also are a number of research institutes and organisations that have been promoting research in diverse fields. There are also hordes of other significant institutions, besides a few proposed universities.
