Jabalpur

Jabalpur is a city located in the Jabalpur district of the state of Madhya Pradesh. It’s the state’s third-largest urban agglomeration and a major city. It’s also the administrative headquarters of the district.

Jabalpur has a strong historical and cultural heritage. It was earlier a center of the Kalchuri and Gond dynasties. Later, it was ruled by the Maratha and Mughal empires. During the British Raj, Jabalpur was a major cantonment town called Jabbulpore. Much later, post-independence, it received a new, simplified name, Jabalpur.

Considering the city’s history, it’s no wonder that Jabalpur still shows a strong military might. Today, it’s the army headquarters of Madhya Pradesh and the 4 surrounding states. And for that reason, the Indian Army occupies one-sixth of the city.

The city of Jabalpur also hosts several prominent institutes, such as the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing; Jabalpur Engineering College; the Tropical Forest Research Institutes; and the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

• Jabalpur has an agrarian type of economy because the Narmada River brings fresh water from the Vindhyachal Ranges into this region. The land of the river basin has fertile alluvial soil, apt for agricultural activity

• Pulses, cotton, oilseeds, and sugarcane are the major commercial crops produced here

Lifestyle
The major tourist attractions in the city include Hanumantal Bada Jain Mandir, Madan Mahal, Rani Durgawati Museum, Dumna Nature Reserve Park, Dhuandhar Falls & Marble Rocks, Tilwara Ghat, etc. Some other important spots within 200 kilometres are Jageshwar Nath Shiv temple, Vishnu Varaha temple, Pench National Park, Kanha Tiger Reserve and Bandhavgarh National Park. The city also houses Wright Town Stadium and Rani Tal Stadium.
Jabalpur Engineering College was the first technical institution in central India to be established by the British. Later, with the establishment of several institutions by local citizens, this city became a centre for higher education by the end of the 19th century. Jabalpur is also dotted with a number of shopping malls and hypermarkets.
