Sriperumbudur is a suburb in Kanchipuram district in Tamil Nadu. This locality comes under the jurisdiction of Town Panchayat in Chennai Metropolitan Area. It is located 40 km south-west of the capital city of Chennai on the NH4. The old name of Sriperumbudur is “Bhoodhapuri”. It is known for being the birthplace of Sri Ramanuja, one of the most prominent Hindu Vaishnava saints. Sriperumbudur has seen fast industrialization. Prominent localities situated close to Sriperumbudur are Pannur, Tambaram, Sengadu, Guduvanchery, Vallakkottai, Avadi, Thandalam, Arakkonam, Perambakkam etc. This locality has attracted huge investment due to proximity to Chennai port, strategic location on the Chennai-Bangalore highway, infrastructure development, establishment of IT Parks, and availability of quality workforce. |
A new greenfield Chennai Airport is planned for Sriperumbudur. The Industrial corridor between Sriperumbudur and Oragadam is rapidly growing. Adikesava Perumal temple, Rajiv Gandhi Memorial, Vallakottai Murugan temple, Madras Motor Sports Club, and Marine Fossil Park are some of the places of interest near Sriperumbudur. Recently, CEAT plans and signed MoU to set up Rs 4,000 crore tyre unit near Sriperumbudur. It has excellent connectivity to Chennai International Airport which is located at a distance of 32 km via Tambaram – Mudichur – Sriperumbudur Road.
Tiruvallur, Egattur Halt, Kadambathur, Senji Panambakkam are its nearby railway stations. However, Tiruvallur is the nearest railway station to Sriperumbudur, located at a driving distance of 18 km via SH57.
The Highways Department has proposed a detailed project report (DPR) for the Peripheral Road project. This road would be useful for commuters traveling to Sriperumbudur and on the Chennai- Highway. The proposed road would connect four National Highways – NH4, NH 45, NH5, NH 205, and five important State Highways – SH 3, SH 57, SH 50, SH 51 and SH 50A.
